Dealing with chronic pain is exhausting and frustrating for anyone. Chronic pain can lead to mood disorders, depression, and insomnia. Acute pain and chronic pain are signs your body is in distress. Many people struggle with pain that lasts more than 4-6 weeks, which we call chronic. Some people think this pain will disappear and decide to find treatment later. However, untreated pain can lead to more severe health issues.
There are a few common causes of chronic pain. Let’s explore myofascial trigger points and joint dysfunction issues and how they create frequent pain.
Everyone has multiple trigger points throughout the body. Myofascial pain can occur when myofascial trigger points become fibrous and hard from overuse, stress, or injury. These trigger points can often form hard knots, creating persistent pain. For example, trigger points in the jaw can cause TMJ and headaches, and trigger points in the feet can cause plantar fasciitis. Also, trigger points in the buttocks and low back can cause sciatica pain.
Sitting for long hours at a desk or computer may also lead to myofascial pain from the repetitive stress on the body. It can also lead to numbness in the limbs, known as nerve entrapment. Many doctors struggle to find the source of this pain in their patients because you can’t see it on an MRI or X-ray.
Chronic pain can also occur from excessive mobility. Athletes can often experience this issue in the form of osteoarthritis. People who are obese or have sustained injuries can also deal with joint dysfunction. Over time, the cartilage breaks down and the joints rub together. Pain and inflammation take over the body, leading to headaches, back and hip pain, TMJ, neck pain, or other joint pain.
Many people are searching for lasting pain solutions to increase their health and wellness. Several internet resources, including WebMD, list antidepressants, pain relievers, anticonvulsants, and opioid painkillers for pain solutions. The problem with using any of these options is that they are habit-forming and ultimately mask the root cause of the pain. While these would help in some circumstances, they are unnecessary for most pain issues. Natural solutions can help correct the root cause and help you heal from chronic pain.
